Freight Calculations
As freight is calculated differently, we have prepared a simple method below to calculate how your freight "weighs out", or "dims out" when shipping by air, or ocean. Carriers usually charge on a “w/m” weight/measurement basis, and freight charges are assessed on whichever will generate the greatest revenue. These calculations are indicators to freight charge assessments, and are subject to carrier limitations and acceptability.

Ocean freight :

Multiply cargo measurements in inches, divide by 1728, divide by 35.32 = cubic meters
Weight -
Sample shipment:
1 skid, having dimensions of 45 x 45 x 60” / Weight: 1500 lb.
BY AIR:
Actual weight: 1500 lbs. / 2.2046 = 680 kilos
Volume weight: 45 x 45 x 60” / 366 = 322 kilos
Freight charges would be assessed on the actual weight
BY OCEAN:
Actual weight: 1500 lbs. / 2.2046 = 680 kilos
Volume: 45 x 45 x 60 = 121,500 cu.in. / 1728 = 70.3 cu.ft / 35.32 = 1.99 cbm.
Freight charges would be assessed on the volume (measurement)
